Back to Africa

I spent last spring studying and serving in Ghana, Africa. Ever since I returned home I have felt the need to go back and serve. Fortunately, through Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB), I am able to return to Africa.

On February 4, 2009, I will be leaving for Kenya. I will spend the next year working at St. Camillus Mission Hospital in Karungu, Kenya. The hospital is run by religious and lay staff committed to the ministry of caring for the needy to ensure that all the sick receive loving care through words and actions.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin this new journey. Please take this opportunity to partner with me and support my efforts with a monetary donation.

What it costs to get me to the other side of the world..

The cost of sending one volunteer for one year is $15,000. CMMB use donations to support the stipend ($350 monthly), international airfare, housing, medivac insurance, hazzard insurance, overweight baggage for medicines, orientation, and other in-country expenses related to a volunteer. Imagine getting a nurse, surgeon, tech, or therapist to work full-time for one year for the cost of 15K. That's what CMMB is able to do because of the generous faith and spirit of our volunteers. Help support this cause and create a great force of medical volunteers for world good. In FY2008 CMMB supported 100 volunteers thanks to your donations.

Lauren-Loved your blog and the stories we can all learn from. I knew when you took care of me in Cusmapa that you would be a caregiver all your life. May God continue to bless your work.

Lauren,
I continue to pray for you daily!
Hope you had a wonderful Easter Season, I spent mine with a missionary priest Fr. Jim Delaney (81 years young) from Africa. He's been in Africa since 1954, and came home to raise money for his mission.
So proud of the work you are doing
Stay safe
